Get Fit - The final hours

So this year has finally come to a close. One of the things that made my grad year so much more enjoyable was get fit! Get fit was an enthusiastic, fun environment, where you could work at your own pace, set your own goals, and achieve them!

But one of the things I loved the most about Get fit was the fact that....you didn't need to be a star athlete. It was okay that you couldn't run over 7 on the beep teat, or that you weren't very coordinated. No one would laugh at you or exclude you if you weren't as athletic. What I loved about this class was that it was a P.E. class free of judgement. You strived to do YOUR best, not the class's best.

The class's positivity was also something that I really loved. There were no 'down' moments- it was all smiles and laughing, which was great on an upsetting day.

Overall, Get fit was an amazing class, and I'll miss it for sure. Ms. Phillips, thanks for making this class a fun ride.

True Beauty- Where, and who does it come from?

Who sees are true beauty? Dove's video on true beauty touched many hearts, as it made a strong point- people often downplay their beauty, and exaggerate their flaws. When in reality, people are drawn to a person's striking points, very often ignoring any possible flaws. The women in the video, after seeing a sketch drawn of them being described by another person looked almost relieved, as if they hadn't expected themselves to look better. To me, this video represents the first step- knowing that people will see you as beautiful is one thing. But to really feel happy, YOU need to feel that you are beautiful. A person's live isn't lived for someone else- your life is yours to live. Be happy that someone else finds you beautiful, but remember to believe that you are beautiful without their reassurance as well.

MISSrepresentation...hit or miss?

As we began the documentary, I sat up, straightening my back. It was interesting- it hit multiple issues that affected people's perception of what the ideal woman should be- thin, tall, perfect. But as I watched, I found myself wondering- did the documentary really get the main issue? The majority of the documentary focused on women's roles in politics, jobs, and in the household. While I completely agreed with the documentary's stance, I wished that they had put more emphasis on a crippling issue affecting teenage girls- self esteem. After all, it would be girls in our generation that would grow up to be leaders. To be completely honest, girls in our age and society do not become depressed over not being able to be a leader in their future- they worry about their own inadequacy: aesthetic and on the inside. Many girls diet to the extreme, wear too much makeup, and wear revealing clothing- all to attract a partner. Soon, the new generation of youth girls will be dependent on outside beauty to get them what they want, rather than working hard and fighting for it. In the end, the preening and primping to attract a partner reinforces typical gender role stereotypes- to attract a male partner. Is the issue really in how the rest of us percieve women, or how those women sell themselves short?

THE WHEELS ON THE BUS GO ROUND AND ROUND

FIELD TRIPS! I love field trips, especially the field trips in get fit! I went snowshoeing last year in P.E. class, which was fun, but this year was much better. We went at our own pace, but we still were participating in physical activity and working! Taekwondo was a new experience, and it was super fun, despite the limited time we had. I realized I have an affinity for punching....

Skating was super fun too. I hadn't skated in a while, so my skills were kind of awkward and....not skillful, but I had fun.

Sadly I have no pictures, SINCE MY IPOD WAS STOLEN, but....it's in my brain. :D

Interim Report -AL

I've always been a jack of all trades- never being an expert in one thing. Despite not being particularly good in one area or sport, active living has always been a part of my life, one way or another. I've never been very forward, like so many other athletic students. I was always shy and quiet, unwilling to try new things in front of the judgement of other people. However, active living is prominent throughout my life outside of gym class, and even within school.

Many people see get fit as the 'weight loss class'- I disagree. In this class, I want to add even more physical activity to my life, even if its in small ways, such as walking. I also.... *whisper* want to slim down for grad *whisper*.

Healthy living, to me, isn't just physical activity. It also means eating right, and keeping yourself emotionally healthy too! Dieting and exercising for the 'perfect body' can also make someone feel bad about themselves, thus lowering their emotional health. To me, a balance between the 3 is what true healthy living is!

Overall, I found Get Fit this year to be my best P.E. class experience in the 5 years I've been in this school. There's no sense of competition, and this class has made me feel welcome. Rather than a class, Get Fit feels like a team, working together to make our goals. We cheer for each other, there's no animosity and need to outdo each other, and I think that's best. I've worked harder in this P.E. class than any other P.E. class, which makes me feel great. YAY GET FIT!!!

early bird?

while everyone is making a blog, i'm sitting in the library....my blog already made. and then I realized that we had something to do....

anyways, I really hope to 'get fit', like the class is named! I feel as if I'm already pretty athletic, but I can definitely improve to be healthier. I'm looking forward to trying new things (LIKE FENCING?) and improving my workouts and overall endurance, flexibility, and strength.

However, I need to be especially careful not to lose too much weight, so my grad dress doesn't fall off of me! I already got alterations done, so I really need to hone in on certain areas (mainly arms, upper body) rather than toning in general. I hope that I can achieve my goal shape before grad, and have fun in the process!

what a champ.

Pyramid workout. 540 reps, running across the gym a hundred times. If you told me that I would be doing that before the workout, I would've been 'LOLNO'

Falling asleep in P.E. - the right way.

Gotta love turning down all the lights in the small gym and doing the 'corpse' pose! Even though I fell asleep, I loved doing yoga! Can't wait to try it again.
